I feel like the supply of workers like me are very elastic. all transfer earnings. no economic rent de.no skill one lor. maybe just one talkative mouth. Yes, i went to job surf. Apparently, as what my eldest auntie told me ytd, jobs nowadays are either scarce for the 'well-qualified', or very very stressful, taking my uncle for eg, who does 6 persons' jobs for a one-man pay.
Thats how tight the budget ofcomapnies today ar. Cut-cost. Either way, they outsource, especially with neighbouring India being such a good alternative, and China having the low-cost labour, and i believe, increasing marginal revenue productivity (MRP). Chinese students travel out of China itself to study and increase their qualifications, and in SIngapore schs itself, u see a sizeable number of CHinese scholars who are way more hardworking, smart and uncomplaining.
I got this great eg of my bro's fren Yuting at RJC 3 yrs ago. She was from the RJ SC, from China, and yes, now she is in Yale University. Came to Spore to study, and could make it to the ivy league uni yea. ANd she was really damn hardworking, independent and down-to-earth. I say chinese scholars are the classic example for S'pore-bred students. True enough, us Singaporean are not as 'hungry' for success as they are. We take our studying opportunities for granted, and we take our grades for granted. Tuition just seems like the easy alternative if we cannot cope. There seems to be something money can make up for.
On the other hand, the chinese students know they are cash-strapped, and their parents paid through their noses for their education here in Spore. And this is coupled with the occasional home-sickness from leaving their villages which drive them towards their goals with greater passion and fervour. Its that hunger.
They want to make it big. and they are forced by circumstances. They had to study hard. No other option. There was no safety net for them, something which us Singaporean students always had, and could easily fall back on, like having parents to pay for our overseas education lest we cannot make it into a local university.
As a Singaporean myself, I feel...
Damn sad.
For myself, and my fellow studying peers.
Mind you, I just came back from a lvl mugging 2 days ago.
well well.
